Terms of use

Updated 21 September 2026

The agreement between you and the operator of the game: who can play, what in-game money is, your content, and what happens when the rules are broken.

The agreement

Online Citizenry is a free browser game operated by an individual based in Romania. By creating an account you agree to these terms, to the Rules, and to how we handle data as set out in the Privacy notice.

Questions about these terms go to hello@onlinecitizenry.com.

Who can play

  • You must be at least 16 years old.
  • One account per person. Extra accounts are closed.
  • Give an email address you control. It is how you recover the account, and how we contact you about it.
  • Keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what happens on your account.

Early access

The game is in early access. Features, balance and rules will change as it develops, and some things will break.

During early access we may reset the world. A reset removes every account, citizen and country and everything built in the game, so you would register again afterwards. We will announce a reset in advance whenever we can.

In-game money and items

Gold, national currencies, goods, companies, shares and anything else in the game exist only inside the game. They have no value in the real world, they are not your property, and they cannot be exchanged for real money.

You may not buy or sell accounts, in-game money or items for real money or anything else of real value, or offer to. We do not sell them either.

Your content

You keep the rights to what you write: articles, comments, forum posts, names, manifestos and the like. You are responsible for it, and it must follow the Rules and the law.

So that we can run the game, you give us a free, worldwide, non-exclusive licence to store, copy, display and publish your content in the game and on this website, for as long as it is part of the game and then for as long as backups last. Much of it becomes part of the public record of the world that other players read and reply to.

We do not claim ownership of your content, and we do not use it to train AI models.

Moderation and sanctions

If content or behaviour breaks these terms, the Rules or the law, we may remove or hide the content, change a name, issue a warning, restrict or suspend the account, close it, or reverse gains made by breaking the Rules. We choose the response that fits how serious the breach is and whether it has happened before.

When we act against your content or account, we tell you what we did and why, unless the law stops us or the account was created to abuse the game. You can appeal as described in the Rules.

Ending the agreement

You can stop playing at any time and ask us to delete your account by writing to privacy@onlinecitizenry.com.

We may close your account for a serious or repeated breach of these terms or the Rules. We may also end the game altogether; if we do, we will give at least 30 days' notice on the site.

The service

The game is provided free of charge and as it is. We work to keep it running and your progress safe, but we cannot promise that it will always be available, free of errors, or that progress will never be lost.

Liability

Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, for harm caused intentionally or through gross negligence, or your rights as a consumer under mandatory law.

Within those limits, because the game is free and in-game items have no real value, we are not liable for lost progress, in-game money or items, a world reset, or for indirect losses. We are not responsible for content written by other players, but we act on reports of it as the Rules describe.

Changes to these terms

We will post changes here with a new date. For changes that matter to you, we will give notice in the game at least 14 days before they apply. If you do not agree, you can close your account before then.

Law and disputes

These terms are governed by Romanian law. If you live elsewhere in the European Union, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer law of your country, and you can bring a claim in the courts where you live.

If you have a complaint, write to hello@onlinecitizenry.com first. Most problems are quicker to settle that way.

Contact

Our single point of contact for players and for authorities, including under the EU Digital Services Act, is hello@onlinecitizenry.com. We read and answer in English or Romanian.
